Ten Non-Partisan Political Causes

Dan Piergallini

With the 2008 election approaching (it sort of reminds me of Christmas and how it comes earlier every year), there are a lot of issues up for debate out there. And with that comes a lot of debate. When does life begin? (D.L. Hughley joked: 'when the kid starts collecting paychecks') Then there are other issues like gay rights, Iraq, and so forth - they're all important issues, but they're also extremely divisive. Which is why I now present you with ten issues that aren't.

  • Alternative energy/fuels - Reduce dependency on foreign oil, reduce emissions, lower pollution levels - What isn't to love about the idea? Not to mention the new jobs that would pop-up for new bio-diesel refineries across the USA (turning hogshit, used cooking oil, and a whole lot of unhealthy things into clean-burning fuel).
  • Access to education - Reports vary on the return, but it seems quite clear that every extra dollar we spend on early education leads to good returns for society in the future. You would think this would be a priority for the country, because smarter students get better jobs, and the government gets more tax money (which is good whether you're red or blue).
